Bakkavor is a global leading manufacturer of freshly prepared food, including salads, desserts, pizza and bread products for Marks and Spencer, Waitrose, Tesco, Aldi and Sainsburys. They have 23 locations in the UK. They believe in bringing new talent into their organisation. As a Bakkavor Apprentice, there are opportunities in a wide variety of positions, from Engineering to Manufacturing and Business to Health and Safety. Bakkavor have been supportive of our Sixth Form students for a long period of time and their Early Careers Lead, Jane Spurden, regulary attends events here to develop a talent pipeline.
A select few Sixth Form students were lucky enough to be able to visit the Bakkavor factory in Bourne for a tour of their facilities, they were first informed about the background information of the company and the countless opportunities offered, and heard from some employees who have experienced the roles some of the group were hoping to achieve in the future.
After that, they were split into smaller groups depending on what area of expertise they hoped to step into, then in these groups they were given a unique opportunity to have a real experience of the factory and the sort of work they do, and were able to look at some machinery which was very rare and expensive, students were also able to gain an insight into the process of working life at Bakkavor.
Following this, they went back to the conference room where they received some pizzas which Bakkavor made in their factory, which showed the influencea and range of products Bakkavor make. During lunch, students were able to have one on one talks with specialists in the field of work of which they may wish to pursue, and also were able to just ask general questions on things like the interview process and their future working life.
Overall, it was a great experience and opportunity which helped our students gain an insight into the future and what its like to have an Apprenticeship and work and earn after education, and hear about the personal experiences of other Apprentices who have been in their position and have been through the same process.
