Iceland 2024

Year 11 and 13 Geography students had the chance to visit Iceland in October Half Term, 2024.

Students visited the Reykjanes Peninsula, the Golden Circle Tour (including the Strokkur Geysir and the Gullfoss Waterfall), the South Shore (Seljalndsfoss and Skogafoss Waterfalls, Solheimajokull Glacier and the black sand beach at Dyrhólaey), the Lava Centre, the Hellisheidi Power Station, Reykjavik and the Secret Lagoon.  The scenery was stunning and the students completed an intensive tour of the island. Thank you to Mr Pepper, Mrs Ward and Miss Cartwright for overseeing the trip.

Student comments included:

'Iceland 2024 was an experience we will never forget, with the beautiful civilisations and stunning natural landscapes'.

'We were particularly enthralled by the waterfalls we saw, such as Gullfoss and Seljalandsfoss and the geology of the black sand beach was so fascinating. We also learnt more about the volcanic systems on the island, visiting several of the thirty-two volcanic systems and visiting centres where we could see the process of eruptions and learn more about lava and previous eruptions like E-15'.

'It was also so surreal to physically see the North American and Eurasian plate at the bridge between the two continents and the Thingvellir National Park. Additionally, we had an amazing tour guide who told us fun facts and the history behind the places and names. It was a wonderful experience, and we would actively encourage everyone to go!'
