Christmas Concert 2024
The Christmas Concert this year took place on Wednesday 11 December 2024. It felt like a very big one this year, as we had cancelled the Summer Concert for the first time ever. Our students were predictably excited, and for the past several months have been preparing their performances and rehearsing during every break and lunchtime to give their very best.
Our Pop Choir, always one of the biggest groups in terms of numbers, were a very new group this year. Many of our more experienced singers had left the school in the summer, and this choir, made up of largely Year 7 and 8 students, did an amazing job for their first performance of the year. We have so many excellent solo voices and I think this choir will get better and better as the years go on.
We had several sibling performances this year, the Fewtrell sisters gave an excellent rendition of 'One More Sleep' by Leona Lewis, and the Basmel sisters performed 'You Say' by Lauren Daigle. This may have triggered a new idea, as we now have many more siblings wanting to perform next time, something we think is an excellent idea!
It was our Year 13 students' final performance before they leave. Sam Hutchinson and Katelyn Fewtrell have both given so much to the Music Department over the years, it will be a sad loss for us when they leave. We wish them every success in their future endeavours.
We also have many rock bands across all Year Groups in school. Our concert showcased a small number of these. Our newest bands, the Year 7s did a fabulous job of 'Titanium' by David Guetta featuring Sia, Year 8s played a Metallica song 'For Whom The Bell Tolls', a very challenging song. Our Year 9s played 'R U Mine?' by the Arctic Monkeys, and our very experienced Year 11 band played 'Heart-Shaped Box' by Nirvana.
Every student and group that took part did an amazing job and should be very proud. We also would like to thank parents/carers for their continued support of students within Music, and for attending our concert. To see so many parents/carers in attendance was fantastic.
