Successful Partnership with Milestone Infrastructure

During the course of Preparation for Employment we feel it is vitally important for a student to have as many meaningful encounters with employers as possible. This year has been particularly successful at doing this. In extended registrations we have run talks from employers who have been showcasing their organisations. Milestone Infrastructure were one of the first to undertake these and Zeke Rowe talked to the students about what they do around the city of Peterborough, putting some meaning behind a Civil Engineering qualification and where this can lead. Students who were on the Preparation for Employment pathway were also given their first opportunity to practice interview skills. This was on a virtual platform and again AMVC were lucky enough to have the support of Milestone. Anthony Eades and Max Dighton asked these students competency based questions and Louis Dearden had his first interaction with Milestone. Anthony was kind enough to also provide some constructive feedback for Louis and advice regarding Apprenticeships.

As we moved on through the school year AMVC Sixth Form hosted Future Festival and many local employers supported our event, one of them being Milestone Infrastructure. This time Tara Woodley, Holly Linnell, Chris Hubbard, Tracey Young, Graham Dodes, Zeke Rowe and Max Dighton came to enthuse the students and give them further insight into what Milestone do. There were two competitions which gave an insight into more of Milestone’s activities. One regarding the savings from LED Lighting and the other about the amount of salt used for winter maintenance. Mannequin “Bob” in PPE was also on hand for a selfie. Tara Woodley said:

“Engaging with schools is a great opportunity for our people to have a positive impact on students and their career decisions. We get to provide some context of what Milestone does and support those with an interest in construction. Attending these career events gives students a better idea of what to expect once they start applying for work opportunities when they leave school, college or university. We are proud to inspire students like Louis and help them decide what their next steps will be.”

Louis Dearden was at this point getting ready for his interview with the company.

I am pleased to say that Louis gained the Civil Engineer Degree Apprenticeship with Milestone. The positive relationship that they have entered into with AMVC Sixth Form has raised their profile with the students and our Engineering students have started to think further afield about where they might gain employment. It has also offered an opportunity for all of our students to learn about job roles within Milestone and I look forward to working with them again this year.
